Types of Blast Programs
Note: If you want the single best answer for each sequence of a set of sequences, make that set the search library. For example, if you have ESTs and you want to know the single best hit for each EST from a library of GSRs, the ESTs are the search library, and the GSRs will be the query library.
BLASTP: compares an amino acid query sequence against a protein sequence database
BLASTN: compares a nucleotide query sequence against a nucleotide sequence database; only compares sequences as provided, does not also compare complemented sequences
BLASTX:compares a nucleotide query sequence translated in all reading frames against a protein sequence database
TBLASTN: compares a protein query sequence against a nucleotide sequence database dynamically translated in all reading frames
TBLASTX: compares the six-frame translations of a nucleotide query sequence against the six-frame translations of a nucleotide sequence database.
